With the new 7.2 version BizView just got stronger and more accessible than ever!

With every update, BizView evolves towards being a system that delivers world class planning and reporting capabilities to the market.

The overall theme of BizView 7.2 has been to make BizView available on any kind of device and browser, and to enhance the overall performance and usability of the application.

New client-side technology platform

The new version includes a brand-new HTML-5-based responsive client that makes it possible for BizView to access and adjust to any device, web browser, phone or tablet you wish to use.

The last years we have spent much time and effort in the development of the next generation client-side technology platform for BizView. The new user friendly client-side platform makes it possible to run BizView on large screens, on medium-sized screens such as tablets, and on very small screens such as mobile phones. The HTML5 based platform is also optimized for speed, and to work well with modern web browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
The new platform is based on the latest web technologies and based on recognized standards and technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3. The server-side of BizView will stay the same as today leveraging Microsoft technologies.
The new user interface and navigation within BizView will be very familiar to users of Ipad and mobile applications. It supports multi-touch gestures such as swipe, pinch to zoom etc. But it will also work well in normal desktop and laptop environments in your normal web browser.

When installing BizView 7.2 you will automatically get the new BizView client installed side-by-side with the traditional BizView client on the server. Both clients will utilize the same common server-side technology. The new HTML5 client will include features like reporting and dashboards. With these features, you can now access your reports and dashboards from your devices the way you want it – faster!

Login using your Office 365 or Google account

We have implemented Office 365 and Google authentication using the Oauth2, authorization standard. This makes it possible for a user that is logged in to Office 365 or Google in a web browser, to access BizView without the need to enter any username or password. The new authentication mechanism is especially important when running BizView in the cloud. To enable this functionality, you need to configure your Office 365 and Google account settings.

X7 performance improvement in data-logic

Things are faster now. BizView internal data storage for planning data and financial actual data (open SQL Server databases) implements standard functionality to easily provide data to reports and planning forms based on the configurable data model of BizView. This data-logic is for example responsible for financial consolidation, currency calculations etc.

In BizView 7.2 we have optimized performance of this functionality, especially in models with many dimensions and attributes. During the test of 7.2 with selected customers, we have in some specific scenarios experienced up to x7 performance gains.

Extended use of BizView Dataviews

BizView Dataviews was first introduced in BizView 6.2 and is the central data retrieval mechanism within BizView. This functionality is used to query and extract data from any data source and encapsulates the query and logic used to provide data to reports, dashboards etc. within BizView. This layer within the application separates the generation of data from the design of for example reports. I.e. one person can be responsible for designing great looking reports, and another user with knowledge of the organizations data can develop and maintain the data retrieval Dataviews.
In this new version of BizView we have extended the usage of BizView Dataviews. In earlier version Dataviews could deliver data to ad-hoc analytical reports and selection panes.

In 7.2 Dataviews can be used to provide data to structured reports, planning forms and the new HTML5-dashboards. A Dataview can also easily retrieve both planning data and actual data from the internal BizView database.

Active intelligent caching of Dataview data

Imagine you have a large complex operational database not designed for reporting purpose. In BizView 7.0 we introduced the option to ‘cache’ the Dataview data for a configurable amount of time. This means that if a user executes a report, that requested data via the Dataview from the operational database, it will be cached within BizView. When the next user executes the same report, data will be retrieved from the BizView cache instead of live from operational database. This can dramatically improve performance for end-user.

In BizView 7.2 we enhance this functionality even further. Now it’s possible to configure the Dataview to automatically refresh its cached data, when the time limit of the Dataview cache is about to expire. This means that there will always be valid cached data providing fast data to end-user reports, analytic reports and dashboards.

Powered by the latest technology

In BizView 7.2 we now utilize the latest modern technology to provide fast query performance. The BizView Dataview caching mechanism has been extended to support both in-memory caching and so called column store caching.
In-memory caching is used to temporary cache relatively small amount of data never touching the relative slow hard drive but instead using the very fast memory of the server.

Column store caching is used to cache large amount of data for a longer time, from 1 million up to billions of records. This technology then gives a superb performance in dashboards and reports.

Many small but important enhancements

In this release, we have especially listened to requests from our community of consultant. We have implement as many small enhancements as possible to make the life easier for partners and consultants, to fulfill customers’ needs and to make it even faster to implement BizView. Some examples:

  • Possibility to hide standard buttons in planning forms and reports ribbon
  • Possibility to prevent export and extraction of data for users (i.e. limit specific users right to export data from reports, forms, grid forms etc., important for organizations with sensitive data)
  • Possibility to base the cross-time allocation of revenues/costs on calculated cells in planning forms, not only data from databases (i.e. enabling more complex split of revenues and cost by month, week etc.)
  • Grid forms (tables to edit custom data) will in header show the filters applied to the data visible in the grid
  • Possibility to show to end-user if a cell contains a formula or not using conditional formatting
  • Possibility to archive report and form templates no longer in use
  • Users no longer ‘active’ will by default not be shown in list of users
  • Possibility for administrators to impersonate a user to see BizView from another user point of view
  • Administrators can now monitor, start and stop the three BizView windows services from within BizView (Processing Services, Messaging Services and AD-Synchronization Services)
  • Possibility to execute a BizView Processing Services job from a planning form script
  • Sort order of workflows can be controlled
  • New license validation mechanism using a Bizview license web service
  • And many more new features
